TORONTO 1981 The Police performed at The Piccadilly Tube in Toronto, Canada. A short distance down the road at another popular club, The Horseshoe, another band performed with the same name, only they were from England. While The Tube was filled to capacity, The Horseshoe appeared to have a coffee house atmosphere which was odd because the club was more of an alternative club that attracted up and coming bands with an edge. In August of 2000 during Stings tour, Jimi B had a chance encounter with Sting . They reflected back upon their early days when they were both performing in Toronto, within blocks of each other, headlining with the same name...Police. They laughed about it all and reminisced about those wondrous days of yore. Quoting Sting..."Hey, it could have gone either way!"...Pictured on the left are Ron Bartley (guitars & vocals) Danny Smith (drums) Laurie Del Grande (guitar and keyboards) Jimi B (bass & Vocals). Recently some tapes of The Police recorded live somewhere in Canada surfaced. Depending on the quality, look for a release on BNOrecordingUSA in the near future. THE POLICE was Danny Smith drums, Laurie Del Grand keys & guitar, Ron Bartley guitars , vocals and Jimi B bass, vocals During this performance the band was visited by four police officers. Two in uniform and two in plain clothes. They approached the stage a flashed their badges. The crowd reacted wildly thinking this was part of the show. Their manager quickly came over and asked what was happening. The one detective said they had a bench warrant for Jimi Bertucci and Laurie Del Grande for not appearing in court on a certain date. The two officers agreed that they could finish the set. They posted the uniformed police on each end of the stage. When the set was over Jimi and Laurie were cuffed and escorted towards the exit. The crowd cheered and yelled for an encore and still thinking this was all part of the show. They were put in the back of a squad car and taken away. Read about THE POLICE BUST

DIMENSIONS - JIMI BERTUCCI - this is a wonderful collection of samples. You can order all these great songs here at the On The Radio page or get them at iTune. The wonderful thing about the internet is you have so many choices on how to get your music .....we don't care how you get the music just get it. Songs like Burning Love from Space Patrol is a rarity....I Wasn't Searching, Passion and Innocence and what about New York Lights wow... a dance beat from our pop Iguana. I can't say enough about this cd it has an incredible collection of tunes. I remember hearing "Winning Side" on CFTR a local radio station in Toronto Canada. They were the first station to play this hot track. Other stations refused to spin the record because Jimi used the word queer openly. Boy have times changed. Another hotty is "Call My Number" great sax solo and I hear this was recorded at Cottingham Sound with Tom Atom engineering. Ok order this cd so Jimi can take another safari. You can also hear a few of these songs on the CONTACT page in it's entirety. Enjoy and if you have any questions or comments please let us know. Remember jimib.com is more than music.
AJAX , CANADA - SPACE PATROL from left Jimi B, Peter Verity , Glen Wilson and Rudy Heirck". As Jimi continued his relationship with United Artists Records he began to grow immensely. His writing could be tailored to the needs of the project he was developing or producing. One of these projects was Space Patrol. A group of musicians from the Ajax area just east of Toronto. Although the members had very little recording experience Jimi would do his best to make all involved to feel comfortable and at ease. The band recorded 4 songs at Eastern Sound, Toronto......but only Burning Love would be released on the United Artists label. The band would go on the road and do some scattered dates in the Ontario, and Eastern Canada. Jimi did not want to tour or travel. He recommended the group seek another singer bass player to replace him....he had other projects to produce and wanted to spend more time closer to home and in the studio. The band would eventually find a replacement and would continue to tour across Canada. Peter Verity continues to write and perform . He recently returned from Nashville where he played to full houses. Space Patril released only one song and the rest are in some vault at EMI...to bad. Toronto Center Island 1972 This was one of the bands first big concerts and to their surprise, the crowd went nuts. I recall these four guys on stage with no shirts on and painted art on their chests and faces. They reminded me of warrior indians ready for battle and perhaps they were. They climbed on their instruments an0d began the mighty roars of melodic thunder. I was blown away. I could feel the energy come off that stage as if it were a raging ball of fire. This band was hot. I was taken by the lily pad review the Toronto Star gave them. Was the writer blind and deaf. Although the words were kind, the reviewer missed the purpose of this atomic fusion that we just witnessed. I have never been to a concert with this many people, what an experience. Anyway read what the Star had to say.The Toronto Star newspaper wrote. The most impressive group of the day was Captain Midnite, four-man, Toronto-based band, formerly known as Just Us. They were impressive because they put everything they had into their music, going from song to the next without a break never allowing the audience to come down. Toronto Star David and Jimi have been friends for well over 35 years. Mr. Marsden has been spinning Jimi B and Abraham's Children songs for many moons. It was David's creative fingers that manually added the phasing effect on Gypsy, one of The Childrens biggest hits. He is responsible for breaking many bands and continues to promote Canadian talent. When bands first get together, their goal is to find the best damn drummer around, or at least it should be. Dan Smith has earned his medallion as one of the finest percussionists ever to come out of Canada. He has played and recorded with many bands ( Brutus, Zwol, Abraham's Children, The Police and many others.) "He was one of the tightest drummers I have ever worked with".....said Jimi B. He continues to play on a more personal level these days and for fun, but admits he misses the excitement that comes with the territory. You can hear Danny on AC30 cuts like "Would Mother Approve" " I DO " " Lady The Last Time" " It's Good Its Funky But It's White " and more. Dan lives in Toronto, Canada . He speaks with Jimi on a regular basis and plans to reunite with him either in California or Toronto to have some fun and jam.
When she cries my whole world shatters Each tear is a thorn I feel in my heart Her sadness cuts me like a knife My selfish words make me want to die ( from the poem Chains )
