REVIEWS AND STUFF
JIMI B: JIMI B ( A & M ) - A good effort form Jimi Bertucci, who wrote and produced all but one song on the album. The exception is a forgettable bit of noise called Shake that was co-written with B.B. Gabor. That one's for certified head bashers only. Side one of the album contained Shake, the worst of the bunch, along with rhythmically interesting Red, White and Blueand Touch Me, which is not a remake of The Doors classic. The short, energetic songs on Side one are, I hope, Bertucci's attempts to be accepted by the previously mentioned purple-hair, safety-pin-through-the-eyeball crowd. Side two contains credible pieces of music, some of which should make it to the charts. Excellent harmony (more)

A CULTURE HOOKED ON OIL - Do we even have a choice anymore of whether to drive or not? Face it, our society is a car-happy, and I'm talking rev the engine, let it burn, straight addicted to gas-guzzling beasts! A slight glance into the media will prove my point that the major car manufacturers are spending multitudes more on marketing SUV's than they are on whatever hybrids or economical mileage models that are available today. Perhaps if a high-class dealer, like Mercedes or BMW were to really push an ad campaign about their brand new, more "earth-friendly" vehicles, it might start a trend among people who can afford to be conscious of such things. However for the majority of Americans, our main focus is getting to and from either work, or the stores we must frequent during our typical routines. The way in which most suburban areas have spread, without planning by civil engineers prior to their developments, has left our cities widely in...(more)
TALK OF THE TOWN - CONFIDENTIAL BY LOLA - And since my editors threatened to pull my Jimi B review if I mentioned his overwhelming physical characteristics, I can tell you in my column that he is a prime candidate for next years Sexy Awards. (groan) I'm not supposed to print the fact that he is having a long distance affair with a famous NYC model---you see it's all hush hush because her boyfriend might get a trifle upset to hear about Jimi ( especially from me ).

I don't imagine that Ron will remember me but I knew him before he and his then girlfriend lived in the annex. I have been checking the web for along time to see if there was any updated info about the band. Hello and Greetings from Canada. I ordered and received a copy of Abrahams Children's TIME cd.While I was pleased with the musical content,I was disappointed with the environmentally friendly package it came in.Is a jewel case version available and if so,how do I specify this choice in my order and I will give this bio-degradable copy to a friend who attended there concert with me in Saint John,New Brunswick,Canada in 1974.All the Best.Laurie

I was suprised and delighted to find the CD in my mailbox yesterday. Wow, that was quick. Thanks for suggesting that CD to me. It is a great collection, although I wish Gypsy had been on it .I hope it will be on "30" along with "Fly Me To The Sky". Thanks again, Richard - Kanata Canada

Jimi B, received my Best of AC and really enjoyed it. Sound quality was much better than expected and there was a lot of memories listening to it, however, no Gypsy??? I hoped it was a joke and looked for it as a hidden track and even tried playing the flip side but no Gypsy. It was still worth it but why no Gyspy? Thanks again! Steve

I am looking forward to the "30" cd. I would also like you to send me the SPACE PATROL "Burning Love" single at the same time. Should I order it through paypal as well? Please let me know. Thanks, Gary - Japan

Toronto Sun - Recently, while lined up at The Sun cafeteria, I found myself next to Shawn O'Shea of our business office -- the best-preserved grandfather you'll ever meet and a bit of an old hipster. I admitted to him that in a sentimental moment, I'd downloaded the '70s radio hit Gypsy from his old band Abraham's Children, and offered to buy him a coffee in lieu of royalties. He demurred, good-naturedly, offering the opinion that the song's been out of print for a long time and it should pretty much be public domain at this point. I got the feeling he felt it was just nice to be remembered.

Jimi B, it was great to talk to you after the Hamilton show and I hope that your voice has recovered. You mentioned that you would send us a copy of the new CD, what should I do? I enjoyed the promo single and heard many different things, even an old Beatle flavor in it. I hope you will be back in the Hamilton area soon and wish you all the best on your tour out East. Thanks! Steve - Hamilton, Ont.

Hi there, just a child of the seventies who enjoyed this band. I was lucky enough to be at one concert in little Truro NS. Hi Jimi: It was nice seeing you at Hollywood on the Queensway on June 23rd. When we played your CD we couldn’t believe how many songs we knew and didn’t realize it was you all this time – I guess “life” gets in the way and people lose-touch for some reason, but through the magic of the internet we looked you up and found your website. Hello I just wanted to pass along that I really enjoyed the show at the Hollywood. The cd is great as well. I wanted to talk to Jimi but he was very busy with all the surrounding fans. He still looks great. Who was the woman running around? Thanks for the show. - calvin Toronto, Canada

Well Marisa, your youngest fan may be my son. If he dislikes a song, he won't waste his time listening to it - he LOVES Radio Ga Ga and It's a Kind of Magic by Queen -- but when he listened to Gypsy he just stood there and when I asked if he liked the song he nodded his head and wanted to listen to it twice more! He loved the end especially 'when the wind blows'. :)Allan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (01/28/06)

Very impressive! You know, all this time, especially being here in Malaysia, I felt my music collection wasn't complete (or even my soul) without having the song "Gypsy'. It's such a haunting beautiful piece that I almost melted just hearing the clip. Can't wait to get my hands on the CD. Was one of my all-time faves growing up and it still is.llan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (01/26/06)

Thanks a million for sending the CD - I remembered the song Gypsy as a kid and thought it was awesome, but growing up I thought it was done by Nazareth (dont ask me why). It wasnt until later that I found out it was done by Abraham's Children. Allan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (01/18/06)

Yes, I am Production Manager of both CJOY and Magic FM here in Guelph. Hence the anal audio ear. We play a bunch of Abraham's Children on CJOY, as you must know. All the tracks are from original vinyl. Been a fan for a number of years.Curtis, Guelph Ontario (01/05/06)

Hi Marisa.I attended a concert by Abrahams Children in Kentville,Nova Scotia ,I believe in the 1970's.I was always very impressed with the song GYPSY,and I am wondering where I could get a copy of it.Art, Wolfville Nova Scotia

Anyway, with 2 very young children this CD I purchased and enjoyed hearing again after all those years is now gone. Having been in the business I must have 2500 CD's in total but this one is one of the very very few I care to listen to. Is the double CD as good as time with all the same songs as maybe I will purchase it. Please let me know what you think.Barry, Chandler Arizona

From a 45 year old that just got his first computer, Gypsy was my first download and burn. Boy am I gonna have some fun.As an 11yr old I used to listen to Jim,Ron and the guys practice in Jims basement. At 70 Hucknall Rd in Downsview Ont and somwhere on Dufferin St south of Bloor St later on.I remember Jim as a real nice guy.He new I really enjoyed his music and Invited my friend Brian and I to watch them practice.Needless to say it was something I will never forget.I was to young to go to clubs but was able to buy the vinyl. So if what I see on the list of up and coming tour dates,I will see them in Woodbridge in October.I dont know if Jim remembers the little guy down the hall with four sisters but I sure as hell remember him! Hello, - If any of the members of AC are reading this, I certainly do not expect them to remember me. Back in the ealry '70's AC came to St. John's, NL for a concert at the local Arts and Culture Center. Shortly after that, they returned to St. John's for a series of gigs at a place called The Bella Vista. I hung out with the band for those nights (I do believe they played for 3-4 nights) and got to know the lads. I still have their original AC vinyl with Gypsy and Goodbye Fairwell cuts. Recently as I was surfing on the internet I typed in the band's name (not thinking for a minute that they were still together). To my pleasant surprize, I discovered that they r still touring. I also understand that they may be in St. John's for a concert. Is this correct? Like I mentioned previously, I don't expect them to know me (Rick is my name). I was a young kid who loved their music and saw them each night they played here many many years ago. I hope that you can give me some information about if and when they 're touring in our province. I also recollect that there was a fifth member (guitar player who, if my memory recalls, jammed with the Alice Cooper Band in the '70's). Anyways, hope to hear from the lads if they come to "The Rock."Rick

Hey Vincenzo and Colleen - great video - great band - awesome lead singer! Enjoyed them a lot - what a pretty boy in 1982! Look a lot more like a Rod Steward now with "through the eyes..." Compliment intended there! I heard you're back in town again Jimi - would love to sit down with the two of you and just hear what's new with all the travel and new condos and future plans. Praying for you both. Let me know if you're up for getting together, maybe a breakfast or lunch sometime - my treat. cell# Pastor Dave - California

Thank-you Marisa. Hard to believe that Brian is gone. He is surely not forgotten. The Seventies were so exciting for Canadian musicians. Brian and Abraham's Children played significant parts in the ultimate history of Canadian rock n' roll. Yours in great music ...Nevin CKOC Radio Hamilton

Jimi, it was so great that you were at the party yesterday, a nice chance for all the Babies to be together and share the old times, we'll all just miss Brian so much, but I know he was there with you guys....why wouldn't he be? His wish was fulfilled, and for that I'm so grateful. Thanks, and take care, Ginny

Hi Marisa, I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Brian and please send my condolences to his family on my behalf. As you know, I am also battling cancer and relate in a very intimate way to this news. Fortunately, my condition is stable however, I make sure I live every single day to it’s fullest as I’m sure Brian did. As Jim said “he made playing in a band fun” and I’m don’t doubt that he inspired many others throughout his life. My thoughts are with you all Marc. chambers@mediatechgroup.com 1050 CHUM Tioronto

I wanted to pass along that Brian Cotterill (original drummer for Abraham's Children) passed away yesterday of cancer. He was 56 years old and will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and the numerous people he shared a stage with over the years. - Ted Bass tbass@uppercanadaos.com

I was very sorry to learn about Brian Cotterill's death earlier this week. So many of our wonderful musicians are passing so young. Just two weeks ago, Doug Riley passed away suddenly. Such a tragedy. Thanks so much for your help! Take care, Gloria - ThunderRockRadio - Oshawa Canada

The idea of sharing many years with someone in a very intimate musical relationship is triompho. It was a brotherhood. The bond was more than we could have ever expected. Then, to lose one of those special people, serves only to awaken the life in ourselves. All we can do is continue doing what we do best. Brian was making music till the end. I loved Brian and will miss him and think of him forever. Ron Bartley - AC

I will be doing a tribute to Brian tonight on CHUM between 7-7:30 PM. I'm going to play a segment of the 50th reunion show when Jimi Bertucci was an in-studio guest, and Brian called in. We talked about the Toronto music scene of the 1970s, Canadian Idol etc. You can listen via the stream at www.1050chum.com if you're not located within the station's broadcast range. If you want me to do so, I'll be happy to e-mail an mp3 of the segment, just reply to this. Scott Carpenter To Brian's wife and friends, our condolences. Scott Carpenter 1050CHUM Toronto

My deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans. Ian Smith Toronto

It's sad when we hear of someone passing that has been on the radio for decades. We will miss you Brian - Janet Wilson - New Brunswick Canada

Hi,I just recently came across the website of Abraham's Children, oh the memories came flooding back to 1974 when they played at our school Queen Elizabeth Composite High in Edmonton, my girlfriends and I had the opportunity to meet and spend sometime with them. It was a wonderful day and one that won't be forgotten. I received at the time their drum cover signed by all four.(Jimi, Brian, Ron, Bob) One of them had the nickname SquirrIey, I think it was Brian. I kept the drum cover around for years until my parents decided that it neeed to go once I left home. After touring the website, I was sadden to hear about Brian, I still remember his sense of humor and how the four of them could be the best of friends one minute and angry the next and it was Brian who always turned things around. When we the girls get together and reminisce about old times, this is alway brought up, I wonder what happened to Abraham's Children and now I can share the website with them. This has been a great afternoon touring the website and catching up on Abraham's Children. Carol Fort McMurray, AB

Hey Marrisa, How are yu doing? Any info on Jimi and the band playing up here in Toronto or GTA? Hope so, been waithng a long time. Thanks and take care. Rick Rawlings

Hi Jim, Is there any way to obtain the lyrics for Gypsy and your other songs? Growing up in Toronto in the 70's, I didn't realize how many quality songs your band made at the time, but they sure bring back pleasant memories today. Thanks,Tim Mississauga

When I think of Brian Cotterill I get that feeling in my stomach that makes me laugh out loud. Brian was the kind of best friend that makes me thankful for having shared some of his time. We both grew up in Scarborough, an east suburb of Toronto and found each other through our mutual friends who wanted to play the kind of music that was typical of what we called the "Toronto sound''. We watched and listened to the R&B / Rock bands that played the bars and school dances around Toronto in the 60's and spent many, upon many hours together trying to emulate our favorite musicians and Brian always made it fun. He loved to play and never complained when our practice sessions would go long into the night. He was a real ''half full'' kind of guy who always made our work fun. Brian was a real talent. He could play and sing with ease and made those of us who played with him better at what we did. Most of what happened with our musical careers was a result of hard work but we could never explain the ''MAGIC'' that was Abraham’s Children. Jimi, Ronnie and I started with the same ambition but it all seemed to come together when Brian brought his skill and infectious sense of humor to the band. I will miss Brian Cotterill with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face .Bob McPherson - AC

Hi Jim,
Rick Rawlings here touching base to see if there is anything planned out for the near future. I sure hope so. A good old Southern Ontario Tour would be cool so I could catch a few shows. 36 years is a long time since seeing you and I remember buying the Hot Love single at I think it was the Bay at Town and Country Mall at Yonge and Steeles and then the first Album that came out later on which I think was purchased at Towers at Jane and Finch Mall. My long term memory is really amazing but short term is starting to suck a bit. I played the shit out of that album for years , I was still kind of young and couldn't go to shows. So I'm really anxious to catch up with you and say hello. Anyway I suppose it will happen when it is supposed to so I shall see you then. So good luck with the writing and recording and we shall see you back home when you get here. Reply any tiime if you can. Thanks . Oshawa, Ont

Hi Marisa I received the brand new cd's friday and i'm very happy.Thank you very much for resolving this problem and thank you very much for the t shirt.I just want you to know i saw abraham's children in concert back in 1973 when i was 17 and i still love their music as much today as i did back then.Their concert still remains clear in my mind,They had such a striking appearance at the time. When goddess of nature came out i kept waiting for a second album to appear but it never happened.I have 2 copies of time on vinyl but nothing else until i came across your website.I'm sure i'll be checking out the website from time to time.Again thank you very much._______Linda

Dear Marisa - Unfortunately there are no clips, photos or any kind of footage available from Bandstand.CKCO TV did have a small clip for their anniversary show but I don't know where they got it and I have been unable to secure a copy. I still have many people I run in to who remember the show and love to talk about it. I have a lot of fond memories and I sure get choked up when people remember the show and want to talk about it. Thanks again for remembering and If you come up with something, I would sure love to get some copies.

That would be so exciting to have Abraham's Children perform locally! I'll find out who at Vassar could arrange that. Also, WVKR has done in-studio performances before; the ones I've heard actually sounded very good over the air. I'd certainly be willing to host that if you'd like! Sam - WKVR New York

Then there is a film called Head, Heart and Balls by Peter Foldy in which the Los-Angeles-based musician, producer, director and screenwriter explains why he gave up pot smoking. The Sun asked his publicist, Debbie Walker at Translucent Publicity, why Foldy gave up up pot smoking. She wrote: "Hey Yvonne . . . WHY Peter gave up smoking pot - is that UNLIKE others - where they get RELAXED, Peter had an anxiety attack." Foldy's film was screened at the Victoria Film Festival which wraps up Feb. 10.

Once upon a time, on the titan Atlantic waves, two ships would collide (metaphorically and figuratively speaking) bravely seeking the new world. From the cold heavy waters emerged two young Italian boys carrying dreams in their pockets and an uncertain destiny. Halifax's Pier 21 would be the gateway to the challenges and victories that these two wide-eyed small town boys sporting short pants ...(more)

great song and a great video gg

 Hi Guys(AC)

I know you won't remember, but I met you in Charlottetown, PE in 1972. You played at the Confederation Centre. One of the first radio interviews I did. I was 17 at the time . Alot older now no wiser, still rocking & rollin on the radio. I'm having a hard time finding the hits from the 1970's. I host the Saturday Morning Retro Rewind on OCEAN100, live every weekend, featuring the 70's at 7. I played all your hits when they were hits. If its possible, I'm looking for a CD with all of the hits on it. With your permission, I would like to add them to my 70's Canadian gold rotation.
