San Francisco (continued from Ozzie & Stella) is sure to fascinate more than their eyes, it's likely to give you chills. Next you might jump in your rental car and cruise along Lombard St., located in the Russian Hill district, and if that doesn't give you a headache. So go ahead ahead and leave your heart in San Francisco and put your mind on Maui....that's another Are We There Yet? story.
The Police performed at The Piccadilly Tube in Toronto, Canada. A short distance down the road at another popular club, The Horseshoe, another band performed with the same name, only they were from England. While The Tube was filled to capacity, The Horseshoe appeared to have a coffee house atmosphere which was odd because the club was more of an alternative club that attracted up and coming bands with an edge. In August of 2000 during Stings tour, Jimi B had a chance encounter with Sting . They reflected back upon their early days when they were both performing in Toronto, within blocks of each other, headlining with the same name...Police. They laughed about it all and reminisced about those wondrous days of yore. Quoting Sting..."Hey, it could have gone either way!"...Pictured on the left are Ron Bartley (guitars & vocals) Danny Smith (drums) Laurie Del Grande (guitar and keyboards) Jimi B (bass & Vocals). Recently some tapes of The Police recorded live somewhere in Canada surfaced. Depending on the quality, look for a release on BNOrecordingUSA in the near future. THE POLICE was Danny Smith drums, Laurie Del Grand keys & guitar, Ron Bartley guitars , vocals and Jimi B bass, vocals During this performance the band was visited by four police officers. Two in uniform and two in plain clothes. They approached the stage a flashed their badges. The crowd reacted wildly thinking this was part of the show. Their manager quickly came over and asked what was happening. The one detective said they had a bench warrant for Jimi Bertucci and Laurie Del Grande for not appearing in court on a certain date. The two officers agreed that they could finish the set. They posted the uniformed police on each end of the stage. When the set was over Jimi and Laurie were cuffed and escorted towards the exit. The crowd cheered and yelled for an encore and still thinking this was all part of the show. They were put in the back of a squad car and taken away.

Toronto Canada: Bob McPherson - One of the unique things about a band like AC was the individualism that each member had. Bob was a maticulious musician. His style was often compared to the likes of Keith Emmeron, Rick Wakeman and some of the other more progressive keyboard players. Bob was born in Curacao in the Dutch West Indies, a small island between Aruba & Bonaire in the Caribbean. His father was a pilot for KLM and moved them around to Holland, Montreal, Ottawa and finally Toronto. He grew up in a family that loved music and sports and his parents actively participated in his early passion to play professional hockey, which thanks to a serious ankle injury was not meant to be. His love of all things musical were mostly honed by his mother who loved the Hammond B3 and weaned him on the sounds of Earl Grant and Jimmy Smith (who, Iater had the most profound privilege of doing sound for, with his jazz quartet that included the late great Buddy Rich & Stan Getz). His father once suggested to Bob that he might want to learn how to make a living playing music after he was fired from a menial job at the Ontario Science Centre because he would continually be found playing the Hammond L100's that were there at the time. Toronto's music scene in the late sixties and early seventies was exploding with so many great bands and musicians incorporating a blend of Funk and R&B, they were creating a "Toronto Sound", and Bob wanted to be a part of it. He quickly found himself pouring all his energies into playing the B3 like the guys he had heard around town. He searched out musicians in the Scarborough area where he lived and began to form bands. Together with Brian Cotterill they silenced the critics in the neighborhood when they won the battle of bands at their high school with their group "The Haymarket Riot". He received a lot of calls because back then everybody wanted a guy who actually owned a Hammond, but this one guy asked him where he lived and when Bob told him he said he would be there in an hour. They barely hung up the phone when an old ugly green Thames English Ford like van, full of band gear and the word "Manna" painted on the side pulled into his driveway. Jimi and Ron had walked into his life as though it was meant to be. They began charting out their future as though it had already been written. Soon after Brian joined and "Just Us" was born, and the rest is history.
Toronto Canada: JIMI BERTUCCI is best known as the founding member and principal singer-songwriter for the ‘70s hit-making band ABRAHAM'S CHILDREN. Born Vincenzo Donato Bertucci in Serra San Bruno, Calabria Italy, he immigrated to Toronto, Canada at the young age of six. Jimi ,...(more about Jimi)
( Electronics rival cont ) months, he said. Also, the backplane being developed by Graham Electronics is completely different from the one being sold by Electronics Solutions, Bertucci said. Graham's backplane uses three signal layers, while Electonic Solutions ' uses four signal layers, he said. The Graham backplane would have a special signal-routing system that does not exist on the Electronic Solutions back plane. Also, Graham's backplane would probably use six pin power plug. Electronic Solutions' power plug has ten pins, Bertucci said. "We have built a better mouse trap and they're angry," Bertucci said. " They simply don't want the competition." Besprozvanny, a Russian native, said he has many years of experience in the backplane technology, and designing another backplane from scratch was easy. And although the same consulting firm was used by Graham to design the new backplane, Besprozvanny said Electro-CADD strictly guarded the plans it developed for Electronic Solutions. "They promised us that they would generate the database completely from scratch," Besprozvanny said. Bertucci said he believes the petition was filed solely to keep Graham Electronics from debuting its design at a national trade show Feb. 14 - 17 in Long Beach. The case is scheduled to be heard at 9:00 am Feb 13 in San Diego. Bolton said competition has nothing to do with the injunction petition. " Frankly, we wouldn't be wasting our time or money if we didn't feel we had a case. We have reason to believe they have used our technology and we're going to do something about it.
SOUND ADVICE By Brian Wakil Artist: Jimi B Album: Jimi B Label: A&M SP9069 Leave it to Toronto to produce another fresh breeze in what has lately become a progressively stale North American scene. Jimi B is an artist and album that flaunts very periodic flashes of imagination in writing and performance. In fact, Jimi B. could quite possibly be the most exportable Canadian musical talent this year, unless something dramatic surfaces. With the assistance of well known Toronto performers, BB Gabor and Prakash John, the album becomes a veritable catapult of influence and style. The moments of excitement out number the more mainstream two to one. If the Cars hadn't lost direction and interest and was still producing albums as progressive and interesting as its first, it would probably not sound unlike Jimi B. The big difference here is that Jimi B hasn't yet sacrificed inventiveness for strict formula. News Advertiser
Jimi B. (which is for Bertucci) is another Canadian who is heading up the ladder of success. It has taken Jimi 10 years to be called an overnight sensation, buthe is finally attaining a certain amount of that elusive quantity know as stardom. For anyone who feels he might be a trivia freak, it was Jimi B. who started Abraham's Children, and yes it was their Goddess Of Nature that was released on the Ubited Artists Records. Score top marks for getting both those right. Anyway, Jimi's self titled album 0n A&M Records should help introduce him to some new fans. While there are some losers here (Shake) there are some winners All American Boy and some good songs that areon the border of good (Bodies In The River, Strange Feeling). The set will not be a runnaway hit, but could garner a fair amount of interest. Barry Sweeney

Killing Road (continued from Brian's page) It felt good knowing that our faithful followers found some satisfaction in our egocentric endeavors. Everything imaginable was available to us, meaning the abundance of candy and promiscuity was part of our daily menu. Our intrigue was not limited only to musical fans. Our collective group of admirers ranged from gay politicians to bored rich brats looking for kicks with rock bands. The subtle, unrecognizable torment we sometimes faced was stored deep underneath the layers of laughter and eye-piercing facades. We wanted the fame, we demanded the attention, only to find ourselves weighed down by a burden of responsibility. Luckily, time has a way of slowing down the fast-paced highway of popularity; a good thing if you're caught up in the redundant ruckus. In the end, we can reflect as mature connoisseurs of our self-appointed space and smile, knowing we slayed many dragons along the killing road. From Ciao Magazine
